Michael Atencio swept through the 113 lb. bracket at the Bulldog Invitational to win the gold with a fall against Luke Pleasant of Central-Grand Junction in a time of 1:18. The four victories last Saturday at Pueblo Centennial raised Atencio’s record to 17-0.

In addition to the fall, Atencio had a 17-0 technical fall, a 6-1 decision, and a 6-5 decision over Jacob Gonzalez who took second in the state last year.

“Michael continues to do an excellent job,” shared Head Coach Dean Decker, who admitted that the 4A and 5A competition at the tournament provided many “good learning experiences” for his 2A squad.

Remington Peterson placed fourth in the tournament. After a fall in 1:53, Peterson lost an 8-15 decision, won 2-0, won 10-5 and won 5-0. The wrestler who beat him earlier in the day and Peterson would have met a second time but rules prohibit wrestlers from more than five matches in a day so Peterson had to forfeit. Peterson has a 14-2 record for the season.
