The Colorado City Metro District Board of Directors approved expenses to find out what was causing settling of the road that goes over the dam. Mike Graber, local resident and employee of RJH Consultants of Denver was in charge of studying and developing a hypothesis of what was happening. Meanwhile, Greg Bailey and his staff in the Public Works Division were monitoring the dam on a daily basis. The road across the dam was closed until further notice. According to District Manager, David Valdez identifying the problem may take from six to seven months.

A court ruling in favor of the Lobato et.al. vs. The State of Colorado had left the District 70 Board of Education feeling optimistic. The suit filed by 21 families and 21 school districts, which District 70 is one of, required increased funding for education.
