The regular meeting of the Rye Fire Protection District Board of Directors was held Monday, January 21, with Chairman John Schaiberger, Directors Mike Graber, Rich Simpson, and George McGoff, Chief Steve Bennett, and Captain Jim Beach all present. Director Wally Rice was absent.
The Fire Department responded to 67 calls in December, 59 of which were EMS-related and 8 were fire-related. The December numbers were up by 8% from December 2017, and up 12% from the 5-year average. However, the total number of 942 calls for 2018 was only one more than the total number for 2017. EMS-related calls consistently account for 85% of the total calls received.
The new numbers for the fire department fleet have been programmed into the system and went into effect January 1, 2019. Ordering the new cardiac monitors is currently on hold while Chief Bennett waits to see if the State will have the 50/50 grant available in 2019. Other ordering options are also being researched. Should a current monitor break down, a new one could be ordered and received within 7 to 10 days.
