Hunters get ready, the 2019 draw application deadline is next Tuesday, April 2nd. Get your 2019 brochure and pay particular attention to page 1, “WHAT’S NEW: 2019.”

For starters, the deadline for applications and corrections used to be at 12 midnight, now it’s 8 p.m. MT. So, if you’re a procrastinator, that means you’ll have to help clear the table after dinner so you can spread out the brochure, checkbook, etc. Next, the nonrefundable fee per draw, and per species, is up from $3 bucks to $7 bucks. There goes my cinnamon cappuccino!

Now if that weren’t enough, check out the fourth paragraph down in the left column. For 2019, “ALL APPLICANTS, INCLUDING YOUTH, MUST PURCHASE A QUALIFYING LICENSE TO APPLY FOR THE BIG GAME DRAW.” So now you have to buy either a spring turkey, annual small game, annual resident small game/fishing combo, and veteran’s lifetime resident combo small game/fishing license, just to apply for a big game license.

So, let’s do some math! A resident spring turkey license is $29.75. The annual small game license is $29.75. (The small game license covers coyotes, grouse, rabbits, etc.) A small game/fishing license combo is $49.75. The resident application processing fee is $7. Oh, let’s not forget the habitat stamp! That’s another $10 bucks.
