In the last edition of the Valley View, I noticed an article entitled, "What Our Readers Say," with a sub caption, "Comments concerning news content." One of the comments caught my eye namely, "Political rants in letters to the editor are becoming boring to your readers!" Well, here I go again. First a little parsing of the submitter's remark is in order: "Political rants," well sometimes, but usually the subject matter deserves a rant here and there, but I noticed the submission was ended with an exclamation point maybe a rant in its own right?; "becoming boring," I guess that means the letters just aren't quite there yet thanks for the warning, I'll try harder to correct course in the future; and lastly, "readers," (as in more than one) probably the result of some poll could we have the numbers please? Okay, that's the end of my sarcasm, now to get serious. I don't know the submitter's political leanings, I could make a wild guess, but that wouldn't be fair, but there seems to be a creep into our nation's culture of "silence is golden" and not in a good way i.e., to shut down any opposing view in any form and by any possible means.
