Pueblo, CO: As vegetation starts to green and trees begin to bud, Pueblo County residents are reminded to not become complacent about the fire danger in this area.

I want to urge residents to be alert and cautious of the fire danger that still exists in this county, said Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor. Weve already had a few uncontrolled fires in several different areas of the county, which is an indication conditions are still very dry and a fire danger exists.

According to the recent drought report, Pueblo County remains abnormally dry. Taylor reminds residents to be cautious, particularly with doing controlled burns, having open flames such as barbecue grills and home fire pits and with extinguishing cigarettes or other smoking materials. When Red Flag Warning days are declared, residents should refrain from all burning. A Red Flag Warning means that a combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior and no burning is allowed, including controlled burns.
