Rye Soccer Has A Rough Week

The first opponent that the Rye girls soccer team went up against last week was the Thomas McLaren Highlanders, on Tuesday April 9th. The final score of the game was 5-1 ending with a loss for the Thunderbolts. The goal was scored by Sydney Adamson with an assist given by Sophie Adamson. During this game the team stole the ball a total of 15 times, while Havilah Pitzer worked hard in the goal saving 10 shots taken by the other team. Head Coach Mike Wing spoke about this game saying, “Thomas McLaren has a good little team, but I think we match up better than the score reflected and will be ready for them next time.”

The second game that the Thunderbolts played was against the Vanguard Coursers, on Saturday April 13th. The final score was 2-1 with another loss for the Thunderbolts. The was goal was once again scored by Sydney Adamson and an assist given by Sophie Adamson. The defense was a strong force collecting a total of 60 steals during the game, with Alessa Baker leading the team with 11. Wing spoke about this game saying, “Vanguard goes the better team did not win that game on Saturday, we had many shots on goal, we just couldn’t finish but our girls played lights out. I was really proud of them.”

The Rye Thunderbolts now have an even record of 3-3. They are currently ranked 4th in their league and 14th in the State for 2A. Their next game is scheduled for Thursday April 18th, against the Fountain Valley Danes.
