Pueblo’s unemployment rate was little changed from a year ago at 4.5% but was down from the prior month according to Department of Labor statistics for the month of March. Colorado’s average hourly wage jumped 6.6% to $30.27. The March workforce was estimated at 75,932 people, up about 150 from a year earlier. Jobless rates in other Colorado metro areas include 2.5% in Boulder to 3.8% in Grand Junction. Other rates around the region range from 2.2% in Lamar to 7.5% in Huerfano County. Statewide Colorado is at 3.5%, tied for 20th in the nation. The U.S. jobless rate is 3.;8%.

Ray Aguilera, Pueblo City Councilman, has announced he will be seeking re-election on November. Aguilera represents District 4 which encompasses the Bessemer area.

The Robert H. Rawlings Foundation has given the Sangre de Cristo Arts and Conference Center $200,000 for the buildout of the lower level of the Buell Children’s Museum for use as a Learning Center. The project is expected to be completed in 2020 and will break ground this fall.
