Rachel Shaffer, Emiree Sutton, Alexis Cortez, and Morgan Voss will be traveling to the Eagles Ranch Golf Course, Eagle, Colorado for the state golf tournament on May 20. The Lady Thunderbolts qualified for the trip by finishing second in the 3A regional tournament held at Hollydot Golf Course on May 7. There were 13 teams in the competition.

Rachel Shaffer took 2nd with a score of 82 in the individual results. Sutton took 6th with a score of 90 and Cortez finished 12th with a score of 98. The Thunderbolts as a team shot 270, second to only The Classical Academy which shot a team score of 257.

Last Friday the girls played in the Rye Invitational and also finished 2nd. There were 12 teams in attendance. Shaffer took 2nd with a score of 84 followed by Cortez in 15th with a score of 98.

“We have been focusing on and practicing the short game a great deal the last few weeks,” shared Head Coach Daryl Voss. “We did a lot of short game challenges and competitions. They hate them but I think it really paid off this week. By finishing second in Regionals we qualified to take the entire team to State. The golfing conditions were very difficult because of the cold and wet weather, but the girls fought through it to finish strong and qualify as a team. We were in 6th place after the first nine holes but everyone just kept grinding it out and did not give up. They all played better on the back nine which allowed us to move up on the leader board. It was a very exciting and stressful day for me. It was a goal everyone set at the beginning of the season to qualify for State as a team. It is the first time in school history that an entire Girls Golf Team as qualified for State. The four State Qualifiers are, Rachel Shaffer, Emiree Sutton, Alexis Cortez, and Morgan Voss. (just a side note, all four girls qualified for State individually on their own merits, if we had not finished in the top two at Regionals as a team all four would have still qualified for State.)”
