As most of you probably know already, last Saturday was World Naked Gardening Day. According to the official web site “the intention is good clean fun in your birthday suit and a move towards becoming more comfortable in our skin with ‘non-sexual nudity.”

The event was inspired by World Naked Bike Riding events founder Mark Storey and permaculturalist Jacob Gabriel. Corky Stanton, who also promotes World Naked Bike Riding, assisted with the project as well.

The first time an annual World Naked Gardening Day event took place was on September 10, 2005. In 2007, the event date was moved to the first Saturday in May where it still takes place to this day

The event is intended to be non-political, and more about creating a positive human body self-image and appreciation for the natural world.

Just for the record, my wife became aware of the event because a newspaper carried the event on page one. I guess readers of the Greenhorn Valley View will have to settle for page two.
