From the Pages of the Paper – June 4, 1998

Chuck Scott, business education teacher at Rye High School was appointed to the position of principal at John Mall High School in Walsenburg. Scott was a Rye native and had been serving as an intern assistant principal at Rye High School for the 97-98 school year.

Over 100 parents, family members and friends had gathered at the Greenhorn Valley Children’s Center to celebrate the graduation of 44 children moving up to kindergarten level. 6th grader Sean McDonald played a well-executed solo version of “Pomp and Circumstance” on his trumpet.

Plans were being made for the 1998 Community Appreciation Picnic, sponsored by Valley Market, Mountain Disposal, and Greenhorn Valley True Value, to be held June 7.

The menu included hot dogs, hamburgers, potato chips, baked beans, potato salad and soda. Entertainment was to be provided by Kathy’s Karaoke, and there was to be volleyball, horseshoes, and softball games.
