On Saturday, June 8th, a Rye family garnered top awards in the Colorado Springs Fiddle Contest, put on by the Colorado Old-Time Fiddler's Association. Orly Ryan, 12, won first place in the Junior-junior division. Her older sister Charlotte, 14, won third in the junior division, and did a great job helping her father, Don Ryan, accompany her sisters and other competitors on guitar. Don won second in the guitar accompanist's division. Eavia, 16, won the top prize, the Open Division, against fiddlers of all ages.

Eavia has performed well in other recent contests. On June 1 in Athens, Texas, she placed 4th in stiff competition in her age division. In April, she won Reserve Champion Fiddler at the 48th annual Bob Wills Day competition in Turkey, Texas!

Eavia, Charlotte & Orly are students of 1996 National Old-time Fiddle Champion Chris Daring of Lakewood, Colorado. The sisters have joined with their guitar-playing father and bass-playing brother, Ian, to play in their own band, Apache Creek Fiddlers. They will perform at Trinidad Museum's Summer Concert Series July 12.
