Jeff’s Valley Health Mart was offering assistance in detecting heart disease. The store had just installed a new health solutions computer kiosk where blood pressure and cholesterol could be checked.

Espey’s Smoke House Barbeque was closing its doors after seven years of service in the valley. Owners John and Melody Espey announced the plans to close on Friday, July 27. They will be moving to Mississippi, where John was going to return to his long time career of teaching and coaching.

Rye Fire Chief Phil Daniels reported that a grass fire off Graneros Road near I-25 was caused by two hawks fighting and somehow touched the power lines on an electric pole. The fired was caused by the burning body of the smaller hawk landing on the grass beneath the pole.

Greenhorn valley resident, Dr. Chris Wilson was joining the Spanish Peaks Family Clinic in Walsenburg. The Spanish Peaks Family Clinic was a department of Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center.
