Donna Pickman was replacing David Reineke as finance director for the Colorado City Metropolitan District. Pickman had been a finance director in Colby, KS before moving to the Greenhorn Valley and buying the Hair Shoppe salon.

Local schools were preparing for students to come back to school. 6th graders and 9th graders were starting a day early to attend a day of orientation in their new schools. Principals Merry Martin and Chuck Scott felt the extra day would be helpful to the students getting acclimated.

Colorado City swimming pool was being forced to close the season early due to a pump outage. Parks and Recreation Director, Kelly Hale said the pump needed is not in stock; it has to be specially made so will take longer to replace. She advised the problem was that the pool has a single phase electrical system and most pools use a three phase system.
