The front-page headline on the second largest paper in Colorado read, “Latinos feel unsafe in mass shooting’s wake". There are approximately 59 million Latinos in the United States.

Perhaps because my granddaughter had just gone to her third day of first grade, I wondered why the headline didn’t read, “Fifty-seven Million Students Feel Unsafe in their Schools". That’s approximately how many children bravely go to school every single day.

Or maybe it could have read, “Twenty-million Americans Feel Unsafe Going to the Movies Tonight". That’s how many Americans go to the movies every single day.

For the sake of beating a horse to death I will stop with one more. Perhaps the headline could have read, “Law Officers Feel Unsafe Going to Work.”

Statistics from the FBI tell us that 106 law enforcement people didn’t go home to their family last year in the line of duty. Fifty-five of those died during the commission of a felony. Fifty-two were male. The average age was 37. Forty-six were white.
