Two sisters from Rye did well in recent Colorado fiddle contests. 16-year-old Eavia Ryan won the Junior division at the High Plains Fiddle Fest in Kiowa August 4th. Her older brother, Ian, won the No-Holds Barred division with his bagpipe solo. On August 10 in Strasburg, Eavia competed against fiddlers of all ages, and won second in the Championship division. Her 14-year-old sister Charlotte took second place in the Junior Division. Both girls are fiddle students of Chris Daring of Lakewood, Colorado. Ian is a bagpipe student of Gary Guth in Pennsylvania. All three play for the local band Apache Creek Fiddlers.
