The Rio Grande Sun reported August 30 that the Colorado City Metropolitan District "...publicly acknowledged the alleged and concrete discrepancies" around a former Colorado City District Manager that went on to be hired, and subsequently fired, as City Manager of Española, New Mexico. The press release which was the basis for this claim mentions "discovered missing documents and financial discrepancies." No individuals were named in the press release.

The Pueblo County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate these irregularities. The New Mexico Attorney General's office continues to investigate missing funds from the Española Public Utilities Department. No charges have been filed as yet in connection with either investigation.

There has been some mention on social media indicating some existing CCMD board members were on the board in 2015.
