T-Bolt runners got a taste for what State could be like by running against 4A, 3A and 2A schools at the 45th annual Rocky Ford Invitational on Friday, Aug. 30. Even though the girls’ team had runners out they finished in 3rd place. Rocky Ford’s course is flat and fast allowing Rye’s number one runner Audrey Maroney to come in second at 20:50.78, “it is a very solid time for her this early in the season,” said Coach TJ Blackhurst. Clarissa Peterson finished her race in 7th place at 22:16.87; Emily Peterson came in at 26:16.11 and Christina Kirkland had 34:26.84 at the end of her race.

The boys’ team sent three runners to the invitational and will have another returning runner (Schon Moore) for their next races giving them four runners and are hoping to qualify as a team for State. Rye’s boys team ran against 8 other schools on Friday with Joshua Garner finishing in 10th place at 18:48.09,” I am confident he will be down in the 17’s by the end of the season” Blackhurst said. Jackson Scott had a time of 21:51.66 and Cavan Reilly at 25:04.18.
