On August 30th, Rye High school football Coach Conner Pigg took his team North East to Ellicott for the 2019 season opener. After weeks of practice in 90 degree temperatures, the Thunderbolts tightened up their offense using a Base Block Scheme, and gave Ellicott much more than they could handle.

Rye converted 49 total plays, with 308 total yards of offense. Junior Quarterback Hayden Polk was one for three in the passing column. That one completion was for a TD. He also rushed for two more TDís. Both Polk and Senior Brice Benz carried the ball six times each from scrimmage, leading the charge with 72 yards apiece. Benz contributed in the special teams department as well, pinning Ellicott back with three punts averaging forty-one yards each. He was also tuned in at the defensive Outside Linebackerís position, having six solo tackles. Nose Guard Johnny Marquez was very active, with seven tackles.
