Perry Armstrong convicted on child abuse charges in June for beating and starving his step daughter over the course of several years was sentenced Friday to nearly 200 years in the Colorado Department of corrections.

The last K-Mart in Pueblo on N. Elizabeth St., will close in mid-December according to a corporate announcement issued Tuesday.

The hottest day ever in Pueblo County in September was 102 degrees last Monday according to the National Weather Service. August was the fifth warmest August on record in Pueblo, with an average temperature of 78 degrees, about 4.7 degrees above normal.

The Pueblo County commissioners voted to include two measures on the November ballot that could help fund a new jail. One of the proposals to fund a jail and treatment center is slightly less than .39 cent sales and use tax to be applied to the $140 million project. The second measure raised marijuana taxes that would provide about $3.5 million annually. The current 3.5% tax would be raised to 6.0%.

For the next five years the Colorado FFA Annual State Convention will be held in Pueblo, the city where the organization formed 91 years ago. Colorado State University-Pueblo won the bid to continue hosting the event on the campus the first week of June each year.
