It has been said that dynamite comes in small packages, and that certainly holds true of Carol Davis. This incredible lady does intricate, breathtaking quilting, embroidery, diamond drill painting, tole painting, appliqué work, and designs her own quilts.

Davis has recently been honored as the first place winner of an international quilting contest sponsored by Kelly J's Sewing Center and Quilt Shop in Colorado City. Kelly Mattson, owner of Kelly J's co-sponsored the quilt contest with Stonehenge Fabrics from Northcott as part of the fabric company's tenth year anniversary. The competitors had two different challenges that they could enter; one was called a block party, in which the entrant had to purchase twelve or more Stonehenge quilt kits and design their own quilt from the kits. The other challenge , which is the one Davis won in, was to design your own quilt around a Stonehenge fabric panel. This local win puts Davis in the running for the grand prize, a nine day trip to England and a private tour of Stonehenge. Matteson said, " The fabric company sent a rep to help me judge the contest, and we both agreed that Davis's quilt was superb. I hope she wins that trip."

"Mother was a seamstress." Davis shared. "I have been sewing since I was ten or eleven, and quilting for about forty years. There have been a lot of changes, now there are so many patterns available and so many tools to make it easier."

Davis is also being honored as the "Quilter of the Year" by the Pride City Quilt Guild. In April 2020, she will have a showing of eighteen quilts at the El Pueblo History Museum in Pueblo. She is also a member of the local "Scrappy Ladies" quilting group and a private group she laughingly refers to as the "Stitch and Rip Group".

Very much at home in her gorgeous 800 square foot craft room, Davis explained some of the different techniques she uses, many of which she will use in the same quilt. "I like to get creative and let the juices flow.", she shared. I enjoy taking patterns and changing them around and designing my own quilts. I like to cut out the appliqué shapes and design blocks including them. I plan out the colors and shapes in advance, although I sometimes change them as I go along if I don't like the way something is looking. It is very time consuming , but I really love quilting."
