Your Rye High School girls’ basketball team played three games last week. This years team consists of Junior Jolee Ortiz, Senior Lauren Gallegos, Junior Chloe Richards, Sophomores Sydney and Sofie Adamson, Sophomore Morgan Elarton, Sophomore Gracie Graham, Sophomore J. Kirkland, and Junior Aurora Ramos. They are coached by Rye Elementary fourth grade Teacher, Kermit Spencer.

On December third, they travelled west for a non-conference match-up against a much bigger Buena Vista team. By using an effective full-court press and good ball handling, they defeated “BV” by a score of 46-32. Rye hit 18 out of 49 attempts for a 37% average from the floor. They were six for 21 from beyond the three point line, countering the “Demons” height advantage. Rye’s full-court press seemed to be the equalizer, resulting in 13 steals for the “Bolts”. Jolee Ortiz led all “Bolts” scoring with 15 points, hitting 50% from the floor.

On December fifth, Rye travelled east to Fowler for a League game against the “Grizzlies”. Sofie Adamson led the “Bolts” with 19 points, hitting seven shots out of fifteen attempts. Jolee Ortiz and Sydney Adamson also contributed to the win with twelve and ten points respectively. Morgan Elarton played tough in the paint, securing six rebounds. The “Bolts” press created confusion and kept the “Grizzlies” off balance. Rye sent notice to the League, beating Fowler 49-21.
