Kyle Spencer his second season as the Head Coach of the Rye High School Boys’ Basketball team and is optimistic that the program is rebounding. In addition to having 17 players out for the team he feels a desire on the part of his relatively young squad to get better every day.

Led by a pair of seniors that played for Spencer last year and a senior transfer from Pueblo County the Thunderbolts are young. Robert Buford, and Kreed Rahl provide the team leadership with help from transfer Logan Mendenhall.

In addition to the three seniors there are three juniors, five sophomores and half a dozen freshman indicating the future may be bright. Spencer is assisted by TJ Blackhurst and Tyler McKinley.

Spencer sees Fowler (3rd in state last year) and Holly (4th in state last year) as the cream of the 2A Santa Fe League, of which the Thunderbolts are a part. But he feels his charges have the desire and the potential to move out of districts this season and into regionals.
