Sophomore guard Camden Godinez scored ten points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Rye Thunderbolt’s won their opening contest in the Thunderdome last Friday in overtime 38-32 over the Swallow’s Charter Academy Spartans. The victory was the first for Rye against a pair of early season losses on the road.

Hayden Polk led the scoring for Rye with 13 points. Rye shot 31% from the field and 45% from the line in the victory. Rye was down 14-11 at halftime but deadlocked the game 30-30 at the end of regulation time before outscoring Swallows in overtime 8-2 for the victory.

The night before the Thunderbolts traveled to Fowler. Fowler is designated as one of the teams to beat in the Santa Fe League and lived up to their billing. Fowler was in the state Final Four last year and are loaded with strong experienced athletes. The Grizzles grabbed a 17-5 lead at the end of the first quarter which they stretched to 36-13 at halftime. The game ended with the Fowler winning 54-29.

Michael Valdez led the scoring for Rye with 10 pts. Kreed Rahl had five rebounds, and Polk had three assists.

The Thunderbolts had an opening season loss on the road last Tuesday in Buena Vista. The locals led 17-16 at halftime but scored a lone bucket in the third quarter and eventually losing 30-27 to the host school.
