At the risk of sounding like Grinch I have some whining to get off my chest. Lori and I decided that for Christmas this year (and Loriís birthday on New Yearís Day) we would gift each other new carpet in the house. It kind of takes away the surprise element but you are pretty sure that the other person is going to like what you give them.

It really is time. Every time we vacuum, we are pretty sure that we have sucked up a significant portion of the carpet. It just seems to be disintegrating before our very eyes.

But thatís not what I want to whine about. We contacted three companies. Each of the company sent someone out to measure the house. None of them wanted to use the measurements of the other guys. Then, each of the three sent us a bid proposal.

Lori and I went to each of the three stores and picked out the carpet. Place number one had nice big samples of the carpet we could take home. Place number two had little tiny samples of the carpet we could take home. Place number three didnít have any samples on hand and told us it would be fastest if we ordered the samples over the internet. I ordered them. The samples cost 98 cents each. We ordered two. The shipping was $7.75. They came in a week and were medium size samples.

But thatís not what I want to whine about. One of the bids came back almost 50% higher than the other two. The other two were within a few hundred dollars of each other but one had much better payment options. We decided on that carpet purveyor.
