Every year multitudes of people make “new years resolutions.” All of the fitness centers have a swell in membership, exercise equipment have record sales, and the beat goes on. Somewhere around the first of February equipment sales begin to fall off along with attendance at the local fitness center, and life gets back to “normal.”

I’ve never been a big fan of resolutions, I’ve always felt it was a set up for failure. I ascribe to the “there is no better time to start or stop than now” philosophy. I don’t care if its Jan. 1 or June 27th if I feel I need to start or stop something I just do it. However, there is something I do almost every year starting January 1st. I begin a new program of reading through the bible in a year. Sometimes it’s the whole bible sometimes its just the New Testament.

I read a different translation every year. KJV, NIV, NASB,NLT and the ESV are ones I’ve read through. I have the bible app “YouVersion” on my iPad and iPhone. If you have a smart phone, computer or iPad I highly recommend this app. It’s free and one of the best resources available for creating a daily habit of bible reading. It has daily devotionals and programs for reading through the bible in a year. For someone like me that seems to always be on the go and may not have the time to sit down and read it for myself, it will read it to me! Its awesome to get in my truck and listen to the Word of God on my way to work or town or where ever.

I want to encourage you to consider establishing this habit. It really will change the way you think and bring peace to you in a world of turmoil. It will increase your faith and bring you into that intimate relationship with the lover of your soul. Try it, you won’t be sorry. Happy New Year
