Atencio Wins a Pair of Golds in Busy Week for Grapplers

Rye's T-Bolt wrestlers traveled to John Mall on Thursday, Jan. 16 for the Santa Fe League Meet where Cole Miller who weighed in at 126 lbs. took 2nd place giving him the all-conference honorable mention. Rye traveled to the Pueblo Centennial Invite on Sat. Jan. 18 with 5 wrestlers, with Riley Prichard at 113 taking 4th and Mikey Atencio at 120 finishing 1st.

Michael Atencio placed first in the Santa Fe League Tournament held at John Mall on Thursday and won a second gold for the week at the Pueblo Bulldog Invitational on Saturday held at Pueblo Centennial.

At the league tournament, Atencio got a first-round bye, followed by a fall, and won a major decision in the finals 16-2 over Michael Maldenado of Rocky Ford. On Saturday after a first-round bye and a second round fall he pinned Michael Robles of Doherty. Atencio is 18-2 for the season.

At the Santa Fe League Tournament Riley Prichard (113 lbs.) placed 2nd. Prichard won an ultimate tie breaker 6-5, won a fall, lost a fall and then won by injury default to take the silver medal.

At Pueblo Centennial he won his first round by a fall, lost a 3-6 decision, won two more falls and lost a 6-4 decision to Frankie Gallegos of Mesa Ridge to finish 4th. Prichard is 21-8 so far this season.\

Cole Miller (126 lbs.) also placed 2nd in the league meet on Thursday. Miller had a first-round bye, won a pair of falls, lost a 1-6 decision and then won a 10-3 decision over Zander Ross of John Mall to win the silver. Miller did not wrestle on Saturday with a minor knee injury.
