The Colorado Regional Wrestling Tournament will take place at Sierra Grande High School in Blanca on Friday and Saturday of this week beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday. Finals will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

In each weight class the top four wrestlers will move on to the State Wrestling Tournament held at the Pepsi Center on February 20-22.

The Rye Thunderbolts are ranked 3rd of the 16 teams in their region. John Mall, who is ranked second in the state is favored to win regionals followed by #8 ranked Buena Vista.

Head Coach Billy Jack Forell plans on eight wrestlers participating in Regionals. Defending state champion, Michael Atencio, a junior, is seeded number one in the state at 120 lbs. Atencio goes into regionals with a 31-3 record.

Sophomore Cole Miller was the runner-up at the state tournament last year. Miller is ranked 6th in the state this year in a higher weight class. Miller has a 34-4 record entering regionals.
