At Friday nights Winter Sports basketball games Jeff Bailey and Gunnison Pagnotta re-dedicated Jerry Kersey's accomplishments with a special trophy, plaque, and jersey display appropriate for Colorado's most esteemed athletic award, The Fred Steinmark Award.

Jeff Bailey said, "It was an honor to have been a teammate and friend of the late Jerry Kersey for whom tonight we pay tribute to 40 years after he was chosen as the Fred Steinmark Award winner.

The Steinmark Award, Colorado’s highest honor for a student-athlete, recognizes only one male and female senior from Colorado’s combined 641 high schools. Along with Jerry, notable male recipients include former NFL receiver Dave Logan of Wheatridge, MLB pitcher Scott Elarton from Lamar, and last year’s recipient Pueblo East high school’s Kain Medrano.

Jerry was of course an athlete that had few equals, yet, he was widely known as much for his sportsmanship and gracious demeanor as he was for the fierce competitor, earning the respect of officials, opposing players and coaches alike.”
