On Friday, March 6th, your Lady T-Bolts began their quest for a State bid by hosting the Class 2A Region 5 tourney. Four teams, Rye, Center, Dawson, and Yuma squared off for a chance to go to the Great Eight. Game one started at 6pm, with Rye taking on Center.

Center came out playing a “man to man” defense, which was totally ineffective. Rye blazed through, scoring 15 points in the first quarter. With 5:20 left in the half, Center finally called a much-needed “time out” and tried to re-group. It didn’t matter. Rye T-Bolts continued the onslaught, and were up 43 - 7 at the end of the first half. Sydney Adamson and Jolee Ortiz hit timely three pointers, which drew Center’s defense out. Chloe Richardson was, again, a strong presence under the boards. Aj Ramos came in, and dazzled the crowd with some nifty ball handling. Rye came away with the easy victory, with the final score 63 - 19.

The second game of the evening pitted Dawson versus Yuma. Both teams sported some height. Maddy Timms of Dawson and Ema Richardson of Yuma were each strong inside the paint. Timms scored with several outside shots as well. Dawson prevailed though, winning the contest 47 - 32. I mention Timms, because she could’ve been a factor against Rye.

This set up the Region 5 final between Rye and Dawson on Saturday, March 7th, at 1 pm. If you look at the STAT comparisons, the teams appeared fairly even. But, that’s why we play the game. This contest was a war in the first half. The score went back and forth. Dawson’s Seniors Madison and Kaitlyn Day were all hustle, but couldn’t get their shots to drop. Rye Sophomores Sydney and Sophie Adamson, along with Sophomore Jolee Ortiz, also had some difficulty in the beginning. At the end of the first half, the score was 16 - 16.

Coach Spencer must have had some inspirational words, ‘cause Rye came out of the locker room on a mission! Jolee Ortiz hit a couple from long distance, and Rye got in their grove. Dawson tried shooting several three pointers in an attempt to catch up, but couldn’t get the shots to drop. Dawson started to get frustrated, and Rye pulled away. Rye wins Region 5 with a score of 52 - 26.
