Supplies from the National Strategic Stockpile to help the communities response to the coronavirus arrived in Pueblo Monday afternoon. From Pueblo the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment shipped them to other counties including Huerfano, Las Animas, Custer and Fremont Counties. Those counties will distribute the supplies to hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and home health agencies. Colorado received 49,200 N95n masks, 115,000 surgical masks, 21,420 surgical gowns, 21,800 face shields, and 84 coveralls.

Michael Atencio, two-time state wrestling champion and Cole Miller from Rye High School have been named to the Best of Pueblo Preps Wrestling team selected by the Pueblo Chieftain. The two wrestlers join 14 other wrestlers and Coach of the Year, Pat Laughlin of East High School.

For almost two weeks the line of eager customers at Double J Meats Inc. has stretched along the sidewalk on fourth street. The more than 50-year-old business has become one of the only places in Pueblo to get fresh meats and other cuts unique to the store in the midst of the coronavirus panic.

Pueblo turned 150 years old on March 22. In 1870 the town of Pueblo was officially incorporated. It built upon a settlement that grew around the El Pueblo trading post.

A man was taken to Parkview Medical Center last Friday after being shot by Police on Pueblo’s East Side. Police responded to a stolen vehicle and when they tried to make the arrest the driver rammed a Police vehicle in front of him when the officer who initially spotted the vehicle fired. The suspect was hit and transported with serious injuries. The suspect was wanted on drug charges in addition to vehicle theft.
