According to Rye High School Boys’ Golf Coach James Buford the Thunderbolts should continue as one of the top three teams in the Santa Fe League in the 2020 golf season.

Buford is in his fourth year as Head Coach and will again be assisted by Jim Hale.

Like the other sports the COVID-19 Pandemic has sparked some changes in the way golf happens. The golfers are wearing masks and checking temperatures. They are making sure equipment is sanitized and observing social distancing.

“That’s what we are doing now,” shared Buford. “All this could change as we get closer to the season but we will follow Colorado High School guidelines along with Pueblo County Health Department guidelines. We want to keep kids, staff and public as safe as possible.”

Although the schedule is not yet finalized Buford feels like in addition to the T-Bolts, Swallows Charter School and Rocky Ford will have competitive teams.

Buford plans no major changes in his coaching philosophy. Like always, the team will hit practice time hard and have good solid repetition on key drills.

Of course, at the moment, Buford isn’t sure who will return but he is planning on returning golfers Chance Donlon, junior; Blaine Roy, senior; Connor Anglin, senior; Marcus Anglin, sophomore, Jonathan Castillo, junior; Xaden Eurlich, sophomore; Taye McCaulie, sophomore; and Anthony Hutchinson, freshman.
