The Pine Gulch Fire started as the result of a lightning strike on Friday evening, July 31. It is located in Mesa County, approximately 18 miles north of Grand Junction, Colorado. The fire is burning in remote, rough terrain, in pinyon, juniper, oak, and sage brush. Ninety-five firefighters are working the blaze which has burned 1500 acres. It is 5% contained. The fire is considered to have a high potential to spread in the hot, dry weather.

The Dice Hill Fire near Grand County-Summit County Line is now considered 100% contained. Smoke from the Dice Hill fire was seen from Kremmling and Colorado State Highway 9. The fire burned about 30 acres. No evacuations were ordered. The cause of the fire is undetermined. There is also no count in regard to the number of personnel fighting the fire
