My father fought in WWII.

He was an early volunteer for the Flying Tigers, piloting P40s and he learned how to fly those long-nosed aircraft upside down to increase their effectiveness against Japanese ships.

As WWII heated up, although he had a safe job in Washington working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he volunteered for the Army Air Corps. He flew The Hump in the China-Burma-India (CBI) theater. He was shot down and trudged through the jungle for days. Only a small fraction of his unit survived the war. My father nearly died but came home a shadow of his former self. He survived to see me, his son, born earlier in 1944.

It is hard for me to contain the rage that I feel against our current president, who has contempt for persons such as my father, persons who have been willing to give their everything in the service of our country. In the service of something bigger than themselves, bigger than their own grifting self-interest.

It makes me sick.
