I was just entering the driveway a few days ago at the VFC building on Santa Fe, which is the site of the soon-to-be Peaks to Prairie Community Center, when I had to swerve to avoid a fluorescent green cone right in the middle of the parking lot. A glance to the right revealed that a Rye Fire Protection District fire truck was again using the community center parking lot for driving practice. If I were my mother I would have said ďIím so tickled to see this!Ē In fact, I might say it myself, although Iím not sure thatís the contemporary way to express good feelings. But what a treat to see that the VFC parking lot is again being used by our intrepid firefighters, who are a huge asset and benefit to our community. It turns out that a fairly new driver was getting some practice winding the truck around close-set barriers. Hereís a picture. Welcome back to our parking lot, firefighters! Itís been a while, and itís great to see you!

Our Peaks to Prairie building will be a real community center soon. We are about to start work on the next phase of renovation. Youíll get your invitation to our opening welcome ceremony in these pages. And in the meantime, please keep sharpening your skills in our parking lot, Rye Fire! Iím sure we all appreciate you and the great work you do!
