The current base salary for members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate is $174,000 per year. This salary has not been increased since 2009. Senate and House Majority and Minority Party Leaders earn $193,400. The Speaker of the House earns $223,500.
In addition, Members receive an annual allowance (averaging $1.27 million in the House and $3.3 million in the Senate—not a typo) to manage their offices including "staffing, official office expenses, mail, travel between a Member's district or state and Washington, DC, and other goods and services”.
