The pros and cons of opening the Colorado City swimming pool were a topic of discussion at the March 30 Colorado City Metropolitan District (CCMD) Board meeting. Current COVID regulations would allow only a 50% capacity, which would be 65 people. Research of past use was reported to have rarely exceeded that capacity. District Manager Jim Eccher and Josh Briggs of CCMD Parks and Recreation reported that with the rate increases, changes to the pool schedule, and some procedural adjustments they feel it will be possible to comply with safety regulations and still meet the budget for employee time. Everyone out of the pool on the deck will be required to wear a mask. Extra cleaning and additional sanitizing of common areas will be required but, rather than hiring an outside company for startup procedures, CCMD employees will do that work to conserve funds. Work on filling the pool, balancing chemicals, and making sure everything is ready to go will start around May 1st although the pool will not open to the public until the first week of June.
