Phillips Duo and Samuelson Show Well in the Shot

The Rye High School track team attended the El Paso County Small School Championship meet on Monday of this week, with the girl’s team finishing 5th and the boy’s team coming in 8th in the 12 team meet.

Kylie Baudino set a season best in the 400 meter dash which she ran in a time of 1:03.36 to claim the gold medal. She was joined in the gold collection by Natalie Phillips who threw a season best 34’ 7.5” to win the shot put. Phillips also claimed the silver medal in the discus where she threw 101’ 2” in that event.

Mandie Wiant was second to only Phillips in the shot put with a season best throw of 32’ 4.5”. “Phillips and Wiant both got a personal record in the shot put,” said Head Coach Tammy Van Oort. “Baudino did great in the 400 meter and has been running well.”

On the men’s side of the board, Derick Samuelson claimed the silver in the male shot put with a toss of 38’5.75” That was a season best for Samuelson.

“Samuelson had a good day on the shot,” commented Van Oort. “And Jensen Brower had a big personal record in the discus. She was talking about Brower’s 7th place finish in the discus with a throw of 93’1”.
