Ali versus Frazier. Superman versus Batman. King Kong versus Godzilla… well, you get the idea. Rye versus Limon! Saturday, May 18th brought two gladiators together for a Regional clash of State contenders.

At 9:30 am, it was about 58 degrees and the wind was blowing in from right field towards home plate. It was more comfortable to be in standing the sun than sitting on metal bleachers in the shade. I adjusted accordingly.

Rye Thunderbolt Coach Graham again called on ace Senior Damon Elarton for the start. The Senior had a rough beginning, throwing 28 pitches in the first inning. Elarton walked two and hit a Limon batter before the pitcher’s best friend, a double play, got Rye out of the inning. Brice Benz started Rye off in their half of the first with a single to left, but was stranded after two fly outs and a “K”.

Elarton struggled throughout the game, walking two and hitting two more in his outing. He remained focussed, and registered five strikeouts in six innings of work, throwing about 101 pitches total.

Limon’s pitcher kept “Bolt” hitters off balance with the curve ball for the first three innings, scattering three Rye hits. Rye started the fourth with a single, followed with an RBI double by Jaxon Ortiz. Ben Compton also had a sacrifice fly to left field for a RBI. LImon was ahead 3-2 until the seventh inning, when Brice Benz had an RBI single, which tied the score at 3-3.
