Gale Valois

81, passed from this world on April 26th, 2024. Her departure leaves behind cherished memories and an immeasurable legacy of love and kindness. Gale lived a life rich in passion and adventure, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Family and friends were the cornerstone of Gale's world, and she treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. In 1977, Gale anonymously donated one of her kidneys to her brother. Only after surgery did he learn that his sister had given him the gift of life. Whether it was family camping trips along the river, a house full of rowdy teenagers as her kids were growing up, lively game nights filled with laughter, or festive holiday parties, Gale's presence illuminated every occasion. Gale held deep affection for animals both domestic and wild. She had many cats and dogs over the course of her life and found great joy in each of them. She often made friends with backyard birds and squirrels and once had a pet monkey named Mojo.

Charles Lucian Hackworth

Charles Lucian Hackworth (1944–2024) Charles Lucian Hackworth, 79, of Pueblo, Colorado died at Joni Fair Hospice House on April 21, 2024. He was born in Casper, Wyoming in 1944 to Carl and Mabel Hackworth. Charles attended Centennial High in Pueblo before joining the National Guard and then receiving a Bachelor’s in Accounting from the University of Southern Colorado. From there, he spent most of his life in the insurance business before owning Hack Shack Liquor in Colorado City. Charles was preceded in death by his parents Carl (d. 1977) and Mabel Hackworth (d. 1986), and his sister Patsy (d. 2006). He is survived by his former wife, Sheila, and their son Lance (Billie) and their children, Lexie, Leasha, Britt, and Brody; former wife, Darlene, and their daughter, Jennifer and her daughter, Kylie; and his current wife, Mary, and their son, Caleb (Erica) and their children, Charlotte and Janey. He is also survived by his sister Patsy’s children, Carol and Jim DeIsle. Although Charles loved his business and the community that surrounded him, his favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured his time with his seven grandchildren and loved being their Grandpa. Everyone who knew Charles knew how much he loved horses. He enjoyed many years in the Equine sports.

Linda Louise Short

Born - April 5th, 1949 Died - March 30th, 2024 Linda Short passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of March 30th in the company of her two sons. She had battled cancer for the last two years. She was born in Denver, Colorado on April 5, 1949 to Robert and Virginia Switzer. She moved to Colorado City in the mid 1970's where she started a family with Jim Short and had two sons Patrick and Marcus. Many may know her from her bus driving days with District 70 and may have even drove you or your children to school or an event. She was a long-lived daughter of Greenhorn Valley that had a deep love for the mountains, her plants, and her pets. She ran her own property appraisal business for 18 successful years. She is proceeded in death by her father Robert Switzer. She is survived by her brother Barry Switzer, her mother Virginia Switzer and her two sons Patrick and Marcus Short.

John Boyd Bassett,

92, of Pueblo, Colorado passed away on Tuesday the 9th of January 2024. John was born on December 15, 1931, to parents Ellsworth Leroy Bassett and Lillian Bassett in Rocky Ford, Colorado. His dad was a carpenter for a bridge and highway contractor, and the family moved all over the west working on projects. During this period, he and his brothers attended many different schools. John was entrusted to drive the school bus his senior year at Rye High School, even though he was only seventeen years old. After graduating from Rye High School in 1950, he went on to study at Pueblo Community College, where he later became a member of the advisory committee with their Building Construction Education Program.
