The 9th Annual Colorado City Rye Lions Car Show was a grand slam hit again this year. This event is one of the community’s favorites, as it draws fascinating cars from all over the state.

The brisk morning of Saturday, October 14, saw the Greenhorn Meadows Park become a hub of activity as the show cars poured into the area just past the pavilion, and vendors unpacked their wares a little further down the park.

Spectators entered for free and the car show entrants were offering trunk or treats with lots of goodies to distribute. Many participants got into the spirit and decorated their cars in keeping with the Halloween theme. Door prizes were given throughout the day.

The Lions Chuckwagon was available to provide lunch or snacks and the smell of hot dogs roasting and chili simmering filled the park.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. the winners of the 2023 car show were announced. Taking home the first-place trophy was Gerad Williams, who had displayed his 1956 Chevy Nomad. The People’s Choice Award went to Earl Joyce for his 1923 T-Bucket Ford Numerous vendors were distributed around the area. Many local clubs and businesses set up booths and tables.

Proceeds from this event, the Lions largest fundraiser, will provide scholarships for Rye High School students, assist with the visual needs of local youth, and provide Christmas baskets and toys for those in need. All of the Lions Club funds are distributed locally.

Jeremy shared, “I would like to say thank you very much to all who donated to the coat drive. We disbursed a lot of coats in the valley today, and several went directly to some homeless people in Colorado Springs that I run into a lot. The rest will go to a Pueblo County charity. Thanks again, We did a great thing this weekend.”
