Rye High School’s Booster Club is right in the middle of its busiest time of the school year. They just recently, on September 10, wrapped up their annual golf tournament at the Hollydot Golf Course. The tournament saw twenty teams enjoy the beautiful Colorado City course while earning over $5000 for the Booster Club.

RHS Booster Club activities are organized by Michele Roy and Brooke Boisvert with what Roy says is ‘a whole lot of assistance from the Booster Club members, students, and staff and community’. Booster Club funds help with costs for field trips, equipment, classroom and club needs, and fund the after-prom party.

The RHS Booster Club has now moved into hosting a series of tailgate dinners. The first of the series of tailgate dinners was held on Friday, September 22, where a pulled pork dinner was served in the school cafeteria just before the Rye Thunderbolts trounced the Trinidad Miners on the football field.

The Booster Club will be doing tailgate dinners for the remaining home football games. The dinners are served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Rye High School cafeteria. The price is $5.00 for students and senior citizens and $10 for others.

An all-you-can-eat chili dinner is planned for the homecoming evening on September 29, walking tacos will be served on October 13, and the final tailgate dinner will be a spaghetti dinner on October 20.

Wednesday, September 27, the Booster Club hosted a hot dog dinner for students following the traditional homecoming dummy hunt. Cookies and drinks were served during the bonfire held near the Ag building. The event was free and open to students.

The Booster Club is already planning future events as they prepare for their butter braid sales which will kick off on October 9 for delivery on November 3. Roy says the proceeds of the butter braid sales this year will go to the Unified Bowling Program at Rye High. The bowlers will be handling the sales for the butter braids while the Booster Club will handle the ordering and paperwork.

Plans are already started ,as well, for the after-prom party to be held in the spring.
