“Your state-winning team in meat evaluation, representing Colorado in the Nationals, is the Rye High FFA team.” This was an announcement the Rye FFA team was hoping for at the 2024 Colorado FFA Career Development Events (CDE) held at Lory Student Center at CSU - Fort Collins; and at the end of the week, that is the way it was.

The Rye High School Marching Band placed 3rd in the Canon City Blossom Parade on Saturday, May 4. The Thunderbolts’ score of 66.91 was a mere .2 points behind runner-up Rocky Ford.

One very fortunate golden eagle was in the right place at the right time to receive help and is now fortunate enough to be recovering from injuries at the Nature and Wildlife Discovery Rapture Center in Pueblo.

The El Pueblo History Museum Is offering a Hands-On History Camp from March 25 - 29. This interactive camp will give youngsters in grades 1-8 the chance to explore the fascinating history of how natural resources benefited our ancestors and influenced our way of life.

The Miss Pueblo County Scholarship Pageant is so much more than just a pageant or beauty contest! It is an opportunity for young ladies to advance and become ambassadors, role models and perform community service while being a positive role model for the community.

The Greenhorn Valley Book Club met on Thursday, February 22 to discuss a book as unique as its title. The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store by James McBride was up for discussion this month and it did prompt a lively discussion.

Each year the Rye High School Leo’s Club plans a trip around Valentine’s Day to visit the veterans at the Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center in Walsenburg. Leo’s Club leader Paula Maroney reports, “ This is one of their favorite activities.
