Luis Pineda joined the Rye High School team as the Spanish teacher this year. He is in his 22nd year in education, with most of those years teaching at the elementary level. He comes to Rye after teaching fourth grade at Cedar Ridge Elementary.

Pineda grew up in Wiley, CO, which he says is a small rural community, and went to Wiley High School. He then went to the University of Colorado at Boulder where he majored in Spanish before completing two more years of college to achieve his Master's Degree.

Pineda shared, “Going to a large university was a great experience. I loved being independent. I played intramural sports, participating in volleyball and basketball. I love to play basketball and still play on Sundays.

I love to coach too. I have coached soccer and basketball.”

Pineda says he knew he wanted an education career during his junior year of high school because of Mr. Elmore, his FFA teacher at Wiley High School. Because of Elmore, Pineda became more involved in activities in high school. He now wants to help push kids in a positive direction and be a role model to let them know that he believes in them.

Pineda shared that he enjoys his students and enjoys helping the kids acquire a second language. “My favorite thing about teaching is that I like to meet a new group of people every year and, hopefully, help them grow as learners. The best part is getting to know the kids.”

Pineda has been married for 20 years to his wife, Andrea. They have two children, a 14-year-old freshman at Rye High School and a daughter at Rye Elementary in first grade. Andrea is a Speech-Language Pathologist and works with children.

In his spare time away from Rye High, Pineda says, in addition to sporting activities, he enjoys cooking and has a couple of desserts that he has gotten pretty good at baking.
