Vendors may have started the day at the Fall Fair held at the Rye Home United Methodist Church (RHUMC) bundled up and shivering, but by midday, they had a fall day truly worthy of a festival. Temperatures had warmed up and the golden, fall sunshine made browsing the vendors enjoyable.

The 9th Annual Colorado City Rye Lions Car Show was a grand slam hit again this year. This event is one of the community’s favorites, as it draws fascinating cars from all over the state.

Paul and Ashleigh Okins left Minnesota for the sunny plains of Pueblo seeking a climate that had less snowfall and less cold weather. They arrived in their new home in 2003, and have encountered changes ever since.

At the September 13 meeting of the Town of Rye, Pueblo County Sheriff David Lucero did a presentation for the Trustees. Lucero began the meeting with an affirmation that he will continue to hold meetings and help answer questions the community has.

Ben Beck set in the auditorium and watched his grandson, Caleb Hurne, compete in a National Physique Committee (NPC) event last November. Hurne won the 2022 State Teenage title and placed second in the Open Division at the 2023 NPC Mountain West Naturals. But this story is more about his grandfather.

DON’T GET ME STARTED Our grandson just turned two years old in September and he is beginning to put words together to form sentences. Some of them are actually understandable.

Mike Christian is the chaplain for the Rye Fire Protection District and a Pastor. This is a follow up to an earlier article chronicling Christian’s first visit to see and help the disaster in Maui.

As it has been for several years the 6th annual Walker Family Coat Drive will be part of the 9th Annual Colorado City/Rye Lions Club Car show and Craft Fair on October 14th. Coats, gloves, sweaters and boots will be collected at the car show.

The September 28 meeting of the Greenhorn Valley Book Club found the members displaying mixed emotions about The Diamond Eye by Katie Quinn. Most members enjoyed the book, overall; and most seemed to have learned facts regarding historical events of the WWII period, the Ukraine area, and Russia at that time.

YOUR COMMUNITY Rye Elementary held its annual Science Day on Thursday, September 28, in the beautiful Rye Mountain Park. Twenty-five presenters, many of whom were former teachers and current staff members.
